'Took it upon myself to tell Veer Savarkar's real story': Randeep Hooda at 55th IFFI in Goa
Goa: Actor Randeep Hooda, who played the titular role of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and directed the film, said that he had to take it upon himself to put Veer Savarkar’s real story in the public discourse.
Interacting with the media along with the other team members of the biographical drama 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Hooda described Savarkar as an ‘unsung hero’ of India.
He likened the production challenges to the struggles faced by Veer Savarkar during India's freedom struggle.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar was showcased as the opening feature of the Indian Panorama section where the team behind the movie reflected on the film’s creative journey and its historical significance.
"Savarkar always wanted India to be militarily strong. Today, our position in the world has significantly improved. This film highlights another aspect of our armed struggle, showcasing how it inspired revolutionaries to take up arms for independence,” Randeep Hooda said.
Actress Anjali Hooda, who played Bhikaji Cama in the film, expressed how her role in the film deepened her understanding of Savarkar's personal life.
“This movie was an eye-opener for me. I hope more such films are made in the future to shed light on our forgotten heroes,” she shared.
Other members of the film’s cast—Jay Patel, Mrinal Dutt and Amit Sial—also attended the press conference.

They spoke about their experiences and highlighted the importance of such films in the Indian cinema.
The movie explores the untold story of Veer Savarkar, one among many untold heroes of India's independence. It highlights his love for motherland and the dire consequences he faced during India's fight for freedom.
The film chronicles the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a revolutionary thinker and poet who played a pivotal role in India’s fight for freedom.
It explores his transformation into a staunch advocate for armed resistance, his ideological struggles, and his years of imprisonment in the Cellular Jail.
Through personal sacrifices and strategic leadership, Savarkar emerged as a complex figure whose vision for a strong and self-reliant India continues to resonate.
Randeep Hooda played the titular role and also wrote the screenplay of the movie and directed the film. The movie was produced by Anand Pandit, Sam Khan, Sandeep Singh, Yogesh Raha.
Ankita Lokhande, Amit Sial, Mrinal Dutt, Jay Patel and Anjali Hooda played various characters in the biographical movie.
