The latest layoffs have primarily affected Amazon's Stores business, which oversees the company's core e-commerce operations.
Employees across teams, including customer service, marketplace support and engineering, reportedly received emails informing them that their roles had been eliminated.
Amazon confirms job cuts
Employees reportedly discussed the layoffs on internal communication channels after receiving job-cut notifications.
Confirming the restructuring, an Amazon spokesperson said the company had adjusted parts of its Stores business to better align its structure with its current priorities.
The company described the latest reduction as involving a “small number” of roles.
Layoffs amid festive shopping season
The latest job cuts come as Amazon's Great Indian Festival shopping event is underway in India, adding to the attention surrounding the workforce reduction.
The move is part of Amazon's broader restructuring and cost-cutting efforts.
The company had previously eliminated around 30,000 corporate jobs in a series of cuts that began last year and continued into January 2026.
Despite the workforce reductions, Amazon continues to invest heavily in India and other areas of its business, particularly artificial intelligence and technology infrastructure.
Amazon's India investment
In March, Amazon opened a new 1.1-million-square-foot campus in Bengaluru, described by the company as its second-largest office in Asia.
The 12-storey facility can support more than 7,000 employees across e-commerce, operations, payments, technology and seller services.
The contrasting developments — continued investment in India alongside fresh job cuts — highlight Amazon's ongoing restructuring as it reallocates resources towards its changing business priorities.
