5.8 magnitude earthquake hits Pakistan, tremors felt in India, Afghanistan
An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale hit Pakistan on Wednesday with tremors being felt in neighbouring India and Afghanistan.
“The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.7 on the Richter scale,” Mazhar Hussain, spokesperson for Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), confirmed to Dawn.com.
“The earthquake’s epicentre was near DG Khan (Shadi Wala) while its depth was 10km,” the spokesperson confirmed, adding that administration in Punjab was examining buildings impacted by the tremors.
There are no reports of damage caused to property so far.
No casualty has been reported so far.
India's National Center for Seismology posted on X: " EQ of M: 5.8, On: 11/09/2024 12:58:03 IST, Lat: 31.25 N, Long: 70.52 E, Depth: 33 Km, Location: Pakistan."
Several videos have gone viral on social media where ceiling fans and other objects could be seen shaking due to the tremor.
