Cyclone Dana to make landfall tonight; Odisha and Bengal on high alert, train and flight services suspended
Bhubaneswar/Kolkata/IBNS: Odisha and West Bengal are set to brace cyclone Dana which has already disrupted normal lives in the two eastern states of India.
The cyclone is set to make landfall near Odisha's Bhitarkanika and Dhamra on Thursday night.
The landfall is likely to take place at a wind speed of around 100-120 km/hr.

The Odisha government has displaced 10 lakh people from 3,000 villages across 14 districts and relocated them to relief camps.
Apart from Odisha, its neighbouring state West Bengal is set to be affected. Heavy rainfall has already started in the state.
Train and flight services have been suspended.
In view of Cyclone DANA's impact on the coastal region of West Bengal, including Kolkata, it has been decided to suspend the flight operations from 1800 IST on 24.10.2024 to 0900 IST on 25.10.2024 due to predicted heavy winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall at Kolkata. pic.twitter.com/jhd4E7S3NS

The governments in both Odisha and West Bengal have closed educational institutions. However, the government educational institutions in West Bengal are currently closed anyway due to the festival season.
As per the MeT department, Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal are going to be impacted by the cyclone.
The Odisha government has put 14 districts on alert. All educational institutions have been closed for three days starting on October 23.
