Mumbai schools to remain shut on Thursday amid heavy rainfall
Mumbai: Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, forcing the state government to declare an early closure of government offices in the city.

The weatherman had already sounded an orange alert for Wednesday.
As the rain lashed the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a circular stating that all schools in the city would remain closed on Thursday.
Intermittent moderate to intense spells of rain to continue over parts of Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Palghar during the next 3-4 hours. Currently intense spells of rain very likely over parts of north eastern suburbs, Thane and Raigad. Occassional gusty winds very likely: IMD

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the BMC's Disaster Management Control Room to assess the situation and gather updates on the ongoing events.
Thane and Palghar districts also experienced heavy showers, resulting in water logging in several localities.
Officials reported that over 250 families residing in low-lying areas of Thane were relocated to safer places.
In Vasai, certain areas were also affected by water-logging, prompting rescue and relief operations by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and the revenue department, as stated by Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the Palghar disaster management cell.
According to a civic official, the IMD Mumbai's daily weather forecast predicted the likelihood of "heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs with a possibility of very heavy rainfall at a few places" over the next 24 hours.
This information indicates the need for continued vigilance and preparedness to tackle the potential impacts of the ongoing heavy rainfall.
