Shops washed away, roads inundated, temple damaged as heavy rainfall triggers cloudburst in Dehradun

Dehradun/IBNS: Shops getting washed away, roads inundated and debris piled up on streets are some of the visuals that have emerged from Dehradun fighting with a cloudburst caused by very heavy rainfall on Tuesday, media reports said.
Several rivers have swelled up while two people are missing in the Sahastradhara area since the downpour.
Some shops were washed away by the force of the swollen rivers in the wee hours of Tuesday, Hindustan Times reported.

The area residents were evacuated last night, as per officials in the district administration.
District disaster management officer Rishabh Kumar said as quoted by The Times of India, "The roads are blocked but we are working on reaching there. Locals have claimed that this was a cloudburst but we are verifying those facts. A few shops have been washed away but there has been no loss of human life."

All schools have been closed for the day.
Authorities have requested the people living near the river embankments to remain safe and alert, the daily reported.
Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple has been damaged. Heavy rain has been reported from Rishikesh and Mossoorie.
