“The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer. “PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display. It pairs state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology with advanced algorithms in our display engine to deliver the kind of visual fidelity pros have been dreaming of. And with the magic of Touch coming to MacBook Pro, combined with the game-changing performance of M5 Pro and M5 Max, we’ve created a whole new way for pros to interact with their content, taking their workflows to a completely new level.

The new MacBook Pro is the result of the deep integration between Apple silicon, hardware, and software, and there’s simply nothing else like it.”

The new MacBook Pro debuts the PROLED XDR display, which uses tandem OLED technology and advances it with breakthrough innovations in every layer, advanced algorithms in the display engine, and a state-of-the-art factory calibration process to deliver Extreme Dynamic Range (XDR) and stunning visual fidelity. With exceptional brightness, striking contrast, and vivid true-to-life colours, PROLED XDR offers the ultimate front-of-screen performance, enabling a new level of visual acuity and precision for content creators, photographers, colourists, and designers who need a reference-caliber display on the go.

A Tandem OLED Display Unlike Any Other

PROLED XDR is the world’s best laptop display, delivering true-to-life colour and unparalleled brightness and contrast. The PROLED XDR display offers tandem OLED technology unlike any other, with deep innovations in its layers that keep brightness and grayscale uniform across the entire display, while minimising internal reflections common in traditional OLED designs. It’s all backed by advanced algorithms in the display engine that precisely control each pixel in real time, plus a meticulous manufacturing process and precise calibration of every panel for consistency from display to display.

PROLED XDR offers up to 2000 nits peak HDR and SDR brightness, allowing specular highlights to shine with stunning intensity.

And through optimisations in the tandem OLED panel and custom compensation techniques, combined with precise control of light across the display, the PROLED XDR display achieves an industry-leading 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, so even the deepest shadows reveal incredible detail, bringing HDR content remarkably close to reality.

The display engine precisely controls the colour and luminance of every pixel at the sub-millisecond level, compensating for content, pixel use, temperature, and environment all at once to offer exceptional brightness uniformity and grayscale accuracy, even in fast-motion content. It also monitors and adapts each pixel’s usage over time to preserve stunning image quality. And ProMotion technology delivers adaptive refresh rates from as low as 10Hz for better power efficiency and up to 120Hz for fluid responsiveness for content in motion.

Touch Arrives on Mac

MacBook Pro features Touch for the first time, bringing pros a whole new way to interact with their content. Crafted specifically for the Mac, every touch interaction feels incredibly responsive and refined. Everyday tasks are simple and intuitive, allowing users to scroll through a webpage with a natural swipe; pinch to zoom in on a photo; drag and drop slides from one presentation to another; and double-tap a window to fill the screen, or flick to tile it into place. And the touch sensor is built directly into the display panel — not layered on top of it — reducing latency so users feel like they’re touching the content itself.

Touch also introduces entirely new ways of working for pro users. Graphic designers can now use the entire display as their canvas, no longer constrained by the area of the trackpad when drawing; musicians can play software instruments right onscreen; and app developers can test how Touch performs in their iOS and iPadOS apps directly on the MacBook Pro display.

And these new ways to interact with MacBook Pro work in tandem with the keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures pros know and love. In addition, a newly designed hinge provides greater stability while using Touch, and advanced video stabilisation automatically smooths the camera feed in real time while using Touch on a video call.

Apple apps are optimised for the new MacBook Pro, and many existing apps work with Touch right away, because macOS automatically translates touches into clicks. Updated system gesture APIs also enable developers to create intuitive experiences designed specifically for Touch.

And a wide range of third-party apps that pros rely on every day will also take advantage of Touch on the new MacBook Pro, bringing new ways to interact with their favourite tools and workflows. These include everyday productivity and collaboration apps like Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; powerful creative tools for photo and video editing like Adobe Lightroom and DaVinci Resolve; 3D modelling and animation apps like Blender, Maxon Cinema 4D, Maxon ZBrush, and Shapr3D; along with music apps like Algoriddim djay Pro.

Additional New Features for Pro Workflows

The new MacBook Pro packs features for the most demanding users. The PROLED XDR display offers calibration and industry-standard reference modes in a portable form factor, making MacBook Pro an indispensable tool for filmmaking, design, and even medical imaging. And macOS makes the most of the graphics, memory, and machine learning capabilities of Apple silicon, so apps perform at incredible speed.

The Apple Pro Display Calibrator gives pros the ability to calibrate their display to specific targets. In addition, pros can take advantage of industry-standard reference modes for cinematic standards, photography, print, design, and more. And with new DICOM medical imaging reference modes, the display can be used today to review medical images with outstanding grayscale accuracy and contrast when used for research and educational purposes.

Through Apple Colour Matching Function 2026, the PROLED XDR display delivers a seamless, consistent visual experience when paired with iPhone 18 Pro or Studio Display XDR.

With support for genlock, MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display synchronises a display’s refresh rate with a camera’s capture to minimise ghosting, tearing, and other visual artefacts when filming, making it highly valuable for virtual productions and on-set work.

Apple Creator Studio opens up new ways to create on MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, optimising for Touch alongside the precision of the keyboard and trackpad. With Pixelmator Pro, creators can interact with their designs directly on the canvas, making use of the fully interactive display to draw, paint, and select with even more fluidity. In Logic Pro, musicians can play software instruments with a fully Multi-Touch polyphonic keyboard, along with tappable chord and drum pads onscreen. And in Final Cut Pro, editors can use Touch to precisely mark ranges, drop clips directly into place, pinch to zoom in on a cut, and more.

macOS 27 Golden Gate

The new MacBook Pro comes to life with macOS 27. In addition to Touch built for macOS 27, MacBook Pro includes Siri AI, a profoundly more capable, conversational, and personal assistant; helpful Apple Intelligence features across apps; and an expansive set of improvements that make the Mac even more responsive and reliable.

Siri AI can draw on personal context to help pros find what they need in the moment across messages, emails, photos, and more; answer questions about virtually any topic; and get things done across apps — all with groundbreaking privacy protections. Siri AI is integrated into Spotlight and systemwide context menus, and users can ask Siri about what’s on their display with Visual Intelligence by using a dedicated keyboard shortcut to get help with a specific item. Pros can also write and edit with Siri almost anywhere they type.

Additionally, Apple Intelligence makes apps smarter and more useful. In Safari, it powers new tools that automatically organise a user’s tabs into topics; notify them of website changes, like product restocks or price drops; and enable the creation of custom extensions based on a description.

Pros can also easily create an automation in Shortcuts by simply describing it, or tap into intelligent photo editing tools in the Photos app. Features users already rely on get even better with improvements to performance and search. Refinements to Liquid Glass deliver an even more focused and approachable experience.

A new slider in Settings gives users the option to personalise Liquid Glass, adjusting it anywhere from ultraclear to fully tinted to match their preference, and app icons are sharper and more defined.

MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and the Environment

The new MacBook Pro was built with the environment in mind and drives progress toward Apple’s ambitious plan to be carbon neutral across its entire footprint by 2030. It is made with 55 percent recycled content overall,9 including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure, 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery, and, in a first for Apple, 100 percent recycled tantalum in multiple capacitors. It is manufactured with 45 percent renewable electricity, such as wind and solar, across the supply chain.

The new MacBook Pro is designed to be durable and repairable, and meets Apple’s high standards for energy efficiency and safe chemistry. As with all Apple products, its paper packaging is 100 percent fiber-based10 and designed to be recycled.
