The new iPhones are powered by Apple’s latest A20 Pro chipset and feature the company’s new in-house C2 modem.

Apple claims the Pro models offer longer battery life, improved graphics performance and enhanced AI processing.

However, Apple has launched for the first time foldable iPhone, which is set to steal the spotlight — a high-priced device the company hopes will emerge as both a status symbol and a sign of renewed innovation.

iPhone 18 Pro display, design

The iPhone 18 Pro features a 6.3-inch display, while the Pro Max gets a larger 6.9-inch screen.

The phones are offered in Black, Silver, Glacier and a new Burgundy colour. Apple has also updated the Dynamic Island, which can now display up to three Live Activities simultaneously.

Face ID continues to be supported for authentication.

A20 Pro chip brings major performance boost

The iPhone 18 Pro series is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro processor, built on a 2nm process.

The six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and dual 16-core Neural Engine are designed to deliver significant performance improvements.

Apple claims the A20 Pro offers 50 per cent more memory bandwidth than the A19 Pro, up to 40 per cent faster GPU performance and twice the AI processing capability.

For sustained performance, Apple has redesigned the phones' vapour chamber, increasing its surface area to three times that of the previous generation.

iPhone 18 Pro gets variable-aperture camera

Camera upgrades are among the biggest changes in the new Pro models.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max feature a triple rear camera system with a 48-megapixel Fusion main sensor with variable aperture.

This is the first time Apple has introduced adjustable aperture control on an iPhone, with the company claiming improved low-light photography.

The camera app also gets new Pro Controls, allowing users to manually adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed and white balance.

The camera setup additionally includes a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 48-megapixel 2x telephoto lens. On the front is an 18-megapixel autofocus camera.

New reference image feature

Apple has introduced a new Reference Image feature aimed at verifying the authenticity of photographs captured on the iPhone 18 Pro models.

When a picture is captured in Reference mode, the camera records signed sensor data that is processed through Private Cloud Compute to create an unalterable reference image.

New C2 modem, better connectivity

The iPhone 18 Pro models also feature Apple's new C2 modem, which replaces the previous generation modem.

Apple says the C2 modem delivers improved cellular connectivity and faster upload speeds than the C1X while consuming 15 per cent less energy. US models also support mmWave connectivity.

Battery life upto 30 hours

Apple claims the iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 24 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is rated for up to 30 hours on a single charge.

For video playback, the Pro model is claimed to offer up to 36 hours, while the Pro Max can provide up to 45 hours, according to Apple's stated figures for eSIM-only versions.

The new iPhones ship with iOS 27, along with Apple Intelligence and the updated Siri AI features.
