Imphal: Five members of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) - People's War Group (PWG) surrendered to the security forces in Manipur, media reports said.

The militants surrendered in the presence of the police and the Assam Rifles at Somsai in Ukhrul.

As per a statement by security forces, “The Assam Rifles had engaged these cadres into negotiation over a prolonged period and motivated them to surrender and join the mainstream. The surrender will not only ensure assisting cadres to exit unlawful approach but also to rebuild their lives for transformation and reconciliation.”

In addition to surrendering themselves, the militants also handed over their weapons and ammunition, which included three pistols, three magazines, and 19 live .22 caliber rounds.

After fulfilling all necessary procedures, the surrendered militants will be part of a formal ceremony organized by the government.

Last month, Chief Minister N Biren Singh received the surrender of 37 militants in Imphal, Manipur.

These militants willingly gave up their weapons and renounced violence.

Out of the total, 36 militants were associated with the Chin Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA), while one belonged to the PREPAK (PRO) group.
