Varanasi/IBNS: After trailing for a round, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is back in the lead in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi as the counting of votes in the Lok Sabha elections is underway on Tuesday.
Modi was trailing behind Congress' Ajay Rai in one round.
The majority mark is 272. If NDA forms the government, Modi will be the first Prime Minister to secure a consecutive third term in power after Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Union Minister Smriti Irani is trailing behind Congress' Kishori Lal in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi constituency.
Irani is trailing by 3,018 votes in the seat which she won for the first time in 2019.
BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut is leading in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi as the results of the Lok Sabha elections are coming out on Tuesday.
Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh is trailing behind Kangana.
Kangana is leading by something over 6,000 votes.
Congress top leader Rahul Gandhi, who contested from Kerala's Wayanad and Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareli, is leading from the seat.
The Lok Sabha Elections 2024 were held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
