'All nine attackers should die, no one should be released': Family of soldier beaten to death
Chennai/IBNS: The family of the soldier beaten to death in Tamil Nadu has demanded death penalties for his nine assailants and said the Chief Minister should come and meet them.
Even though a case has been filed in the matter and nine people, including a DMK councillor, have been arrested, no compensation has been announced yet.
No leader of the ruling DMK has met the deceased soldier's family.
"My son was only 28 and he has two children. What's their future? All nine should die. No one should be released. They should be sentenced to death," his father Madaiyya told the media.
The deceased soldier, identified as Prabhu, served in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the police, an argument broke out between the soldier and the DMK councillor, Chinnasamy, over washing clothes at a public tank on Feb 8.
The soldier's brother, Prabhakaran, was also injured in the attack, the police said.
Later, the argument escalated into a full attack with more men joining the DMK councillor in thrashing the two brothers.
Prabhu was admitted to a hospital, where he died last night.
Six men were arrested on Feb 9. Three more including the DMK councillor were arrested on Wednesday.
The mob used logs to attack the soldier, the police said.
Prabhu's wife Punitha Prabhu said she wants Chief Minister MK Stalin to come and meet her.
"DMK Councillor Chinnaswamy's son "dragged my husband outside the house, threw him on the ground and stomped on his throat. Chinnaswamy's son, who is a policeman, challenged him, asking how he would go to work the next day," she told the media.
"No DMK cadres have visited us. The Chief Minister should help us," said the 23-year-old who has been left a widow with two infant daughters.
"They should be sentenced to death. We feel threatened now. My husband is still recovering. He has received internal injuries... what's the guarantee for our lives?" said Priya, the wife of Prabhakar.
