'Arijit Singh is pride of Bengal': Mamata Banerjee assures help to singer's hospital project in Murshidabad
Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday assured necessary help to assist singer Arijit Singh in building a hospital in Murshidabad's Jangipur.
Banerjee, who visited Murshidabad to inaugurate several development projects, said, "Arijit Singh is the pride of Murshidabad and our state."
"He wants to build a medical college and hospital in Jangipur. I am assuring him that whatever help he needs, our government will provide it. Arijit Singh has no arrogance. His talent speaks volumes about him," she said.
This comes after a controversy broke as Arijit Sang ‘Rang de tu mohey gerua', which has a literal translation of ‘Colour me saffron' in front of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the inaugural ceremony of Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).
Soon after the event, Arijit's Feb 18 concert in Kolkata's Eco Park was cancelled triggering off allegations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that it was a political decision since he sang that particular song in front of the Chief Minister.
The ruling Trinamool Congress earlier slammed back stating the cancellation of Arijit's concert was a law and order decision and the same is scheduled at Aquatica.
TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh also said all these happened before Singh sang the 'Gerua' song at KIFF's inaugural ceremony on Dec 15.
Later the concert venue was reportedly shifted to Aquatica.
