Assam BJP leader faces corruption charges for distributing Rs.100 cr contracts to family members, Congress demands probe
Guwahati/IBNS: Serious allegations of rampant corruption and nepotism have surfaced against BJP leader Tuliram Ronghang in Assam who allegedly distributed development works fund contracts worth around Rs 100 crore to the firms owned by his family members.
According to the reports, the BJP leader is Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) who is also known as close to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Opposition Congress has demanded a probe into the serious allegations.
Various organizations, and political parties have demanded to sack Tuliram and to save Karbi Anglong.
Earlier, Debabrata Saikia, Leader of the Congress Legislature Party said: “There is rampant corruption and siphoning of public funds through nepotism in Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council under Tuliram Ronghang.”
According to the reports, two firms owned by the family members of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang received contracts for development schemes worth around Rs 100 crore in the Karbi Anglong district in the past.
Kache Construction (OPC), owned by the spouse of Tuliram Ronghang, was awarded the contract for the project work worth Rs 60 crore while Inglong Enterprise, owned by his younger brother Robiram Ronghang, was awarded Rs 40 crore for the project work.
“The mediocre execution of the allocated work shows that the intention was to embezzle with complete disregard for public convenience. There was overlapping work as most of these projects had already been funded under some grant or the other,” Debabrata Saikia said.
He also cited the example of the 17-km stretch of the Diphu-Dillai-Sarihajan road, which was completed in only seven days.
Apart from this, there are also serious allegations against the CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council that many other project works contracts were awarded to these firms.
