Australia: Indian-origin man ties his ex-girlfriend, buries her alive
New Delhi: An Indian-origin man, Tarikjot Singh, bound his ex-girlfriend with cables and buried her alive in Australia's Flinders Ranges, an Australian court revealed, according to media reports.
The victim, identified as Jasmeen Kaur (21) was a nursing student from India. The court proceedings indicated that Singh committed this heinous crime as an act of revenge, according to a report from 9News.
Singh, who was charged with kidnapping Kaur and murdering her in March 2021, pleaded guilty to the murder in February this year.
Later, he disposed of Kaur's body in a shallow grave, which was later discovered by the police, the report added.
Jasmeen Kaur's lifeless body was found in the Flinders Ranges, where she was found blindfolded with her limbs restrained using cable ties and gaffer tape.
During the court proceedings, prosecutor Carmen Matteo stated that the nature of the crime exhibited an unusually high degree of cruelty.
"She had to have been consciously suffering what could only be described as the absolute terror of breathing in and swallowing soil and dying in that way," Matteo said.
Kaur's family, including her mother, stated that they were deeply disturbed by the knowledge of the torment that their daughter endured during her final moments.
"I go through a terrible sequence of events, I wonder when she realised she was in mortal danger," she said in a victim impact statement, according to ABC News.
"There was no one to rescue her, she spent her last hour on this earth with the worst of humanity. Jasmeen is gone and I am heartbroken, she was a precious little girl," she added.
Kaur said she would never forgive Singh for what he had done. The court said the convict will be jailed for life.
