Bengal jobs scam: TMC leader Saayoni Ghosh snubs ED's second summon to join poll campaign
Kolkata/IBNS: Trinamool Congress youth president Saayoni Ghosh on Wednesday snubbed the second summon served by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam.
Saayoni cited the campaigning for July 8 panchayat elections as the reason for snubbing the ED summons.
Speaking from the campaign trail, Saayoni said, "I have sent all documents to ED. I had no problem talking to the investigators virtually. Only two days are left for the polls. As the youth president, I have some responsibilities."
"After July 11 (poll result date), I will appear before ED as many times as they would summon," she added.
Saayoni appeared before the ED on Friday. She was quizzed by the central probe agency for 11 hours.
On Wednesday, Saayoni was asked to appear with documents related to some of her properties.
Coming out of the ED office, Saayoni on Friday said, "Why 11 hours? I am even ready to get quizzed for 24 hours for the sake of the investigation."
"I was summoned with some basic documents. They will summon me again soon. I have been asked to bring details of some documents," added the TMC leader, who joined the ruling party ahead of 2021 assembly elections.
Saayoni had said she cooperated with the probe agency cent percent and she was ready to be summoned 100 times.
As per reports, she might be summoned again by the ED.
Saayoni's name appeared in the scam case during a probe into some properties of arrested and now expelled TMC youth leader Kuntal Ghosh.
Former state education minister Partha Chatterjee, former primary education board president and Trinamool MLA Manik Bhattacharya are among the people who have been arrested so far in connection with the scam.
Partha and his close-aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested in the cases after a huge cash (about Rs 50 crore) was recovered from the latter's two flats.
TMC MP and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee too was quizzed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the same case.
