The new line-up includes several prominent leaders, with former Union minister Smriti Irani returning to a key organisational role as one of the BJP's eight national general secretaries.

Senior leader Ram Madhav, who previously served as a national general secretary, has been appointed a national vice-president.

Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has also been named a national general secretary.

Union minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed treasurer, a position he previously held between 2010 and 2014.

Anil Baluni has retained responsibility as the party's media in-charge.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed office-bearers in a post on X.

“Congratulations to the newly appointed National Office Bearers of the BJP and those who have been given various responsibilities in the Party. Eight general secretaries in new BJP team

The BJP has appointed eight national general secretaries, with Vinod Tawde and Sunil Bansal being the only two retained from the previous line-up.

Both leaders have played important roles in the party's election strategy across several states.

The changes come ahead of a series of politically significant assembly elections, including the Uttar Pradesh polls expected early next year.

Bansal has been associated with the BJP's organisational work in West Bengal, while Tawde handled the Kerala polls and has served as the party's Bihar in-charge.

He also oversaw the political transition in Bihar from Nitish Kumar's tenure as chief minister to Samrat Choudhary taking over.

The new general secretary team also includes Harish Dwivedi, a former MP from Basti who recently served as the party's Assam in-charge.

Satish Poonia, a former Rajasthan BJP president and an OBC leader, has also been appointed general secretary.

Gajendra Patel, an ST leader from Madhya Pradesh, and Sanjay Bhatia are among the other new entrants to the post.

Several prominent leaders dropped

The reshuffle also sees several prominent leaders exit the national general secretary list.

Arun Singh, who had served as a general secretary since 2015, does not feature in the new team.

Radha Mohan Das Agrawal, who was appointed general secretary in 2023, has also been left out.

Agrawal and Singh are both Rajya Sabha MPs.

The BJP has dropped its IT cell chief Amit Malviya from the new list, while Deepak Mhaskey of Chhattisgarh has been appointed as the party’s national social media convenor.

Tarun Chugh, who was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha, has been given responsibility as the BJP's office-in-charge for Punjab, a state heading towards assembly elections.

Dushyant Gautam, a prominent Dalit leader who had served as a national general secretary since September 2020, has also been dropped from the post.

He had additionally been the party's Uttarakhand in-charge.

Gautam unsuccessfully contested the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.

New national secretaries appointed

The BJP has also expanded its national secretary team, with three-term Lok Sabha MP Bhola Singh from Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr reserved constituency and Rajya Sabha MP Kavita Patidar among the appointments.

Patidar, who represents Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha, is an OBC leader.

The two have been appointed national secretaries alongside 14 other leaders as part of the organisational reshuffle.

The latest appointments mark the first major restructuring of the BJP's national office-bearers under Nitin Nabin since he took over as party president.
