Brother strangles sister on road over relationship with Hindu man in UP's Meerut
Meerut (UP): A 16-year-old girl was killed by her brother in Meerut's Nagla Shekhu area over her relationship with a Hindu man, media reports said.
The victim, identified as Amreesha, continued the relationship against her Muslim family's wishes for an arranged marriage, according to an India Today report.
The incident happened on Wednesday, according to the report.
Amreesha’s eldest brother, who works as an electrician, confronted her over the issue, leading to a violent altercation.
Trying to escape Haseen, Amreesha fled from her home to the street, where he followed, the reports said.
He continued the assault and, ultimately, strangled her as a crowd watched, it added.
For about 20 minutes her body lay on road till the police arrived.
Haseen was arrested and the body was sent for post-mortem.
The family had previously tried to dissuade Amreesha from her relationship, but she remained steadfast.
The case has been registered as an honour killing.
