CBI arrests RG Kar doctor and TMC leader Ashish Pandey in corruption case
Kolkata/IBNS: Ashish Pandey, who is a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital and an alleged confidant of its former principal Sandip Ghosh has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with the corruption case that sprung up after the horrific rape-murder of a junior doctor in the same hospital.

CBI officials claimed that Ashish Pandey is also a member of the Trinamool Congress and is associated with its student wing.
He will be produced in court on Friday. This is the fifth arrest in the corruption case.
Earlier, the agency had arrested Sandip Ghosh, his bodyguard Afsar Ali, and vendors Suman Hazra and Biplab Sinha in connection with the corruption case.
Ashish Pandey, who works at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is reportedly associated with the Trinamool Congress Students' Wing - TMCP. He was allegedly the TMCP unit president of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Pandey was earlier mentioned in the list of 59 people from the hospital who were issued show-cause notices by the hospital administration and asked to appear before an inquiry committee set up after the rape and murder of the second-year post-graduate student.
Security personnel earlier rescued Pandey when he went to the hospital to appear before the committee as he was heckled and pushed by the protesting junior doctors over allegations of harassment and intimidation on campus.
Meanwhile, even as the festive season of Durga Puja has arrived, the cry for justice for the junior doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, is far from dying down with protests rocking the city on Mahalaya too.
The junior doctors returned to ceasework after their detailed discussion following the Supreme Court's fresh hearing on the case, which is now being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
