Congress brings no-trust vote in Parliament, Modi govt to face it

By IBNS
Jul 26, 2023..

New Delhi/IBNS: The Narendra Modi government will face the no-trust vote, which has been brought by the premier opposition party Congress in Parliament, media reports said.

The no-trust motion was on Wednesday moved by Congress amid uproar in Parliament over the burning issue of Manipur, from where shocking videos of low caste women being paraded naked emerged, in a bid to corner the incumbent.

The combined opposition has been demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Manipur issue.

Prime Minister Modi has already issued a strong statement on Manipur, the northeastern state which has been witnessing violence clashes between ethnic groups for months now.

Along with Congress, the no-trust vote has also been brought by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which is not a part of the INDIA coalition formed by 26 anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) camps and has only nine MPs in Lok Sabha.

The no-trust vote will only be taking place if it is backed by 50 MPs, the figure which Congress is expected to manage, of the house.

BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which governs the country, will have a smooth sail in the trust-vote as it has 331 out of 543 members.

The Opposition, which is gearing up to corner the government ahead of the 2024 General Elections, will have to fight a perception battle in front of the mighty ruling party.

The government has, however, agreed to speak on the Manipur issue during the monsoon session of Parliament.
