The Delhi Fire Service was alerted about the incident at around 3:30 pm, following which teams from the Delhi Police and fire department rushed to the spot.
Several videos from the site have surfaced online, showing a large number of people gathered around the rubble.
Some people could also be seen attempting to remove boulders and concrete slabs to rescue those believed to be trapped underneath.
The Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to avoid the area in view of the ongoing rescue operations.
A five-storey residential building collapsed in Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Wednesday, with several people feared trapped under the debris. A family member said the building was evacuated after the earthquake, but people were gradually returning when it suddenly collapsed around 3:30 pm. In a post on X, the Delhi Traffic Police said, “A multi-storey building has collapsed in Seemapuri and rescue teams are working at the site. Traffic is affected around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads.”

The building collapse comes just weeka after a boys’ paying guest accommodation in Delhi’s Satya Niketan collapsed on September 6, killing seven people.
