Ex-Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, arrested in land scam case, moves Supreme Court after HC rejects bail plea
Ranchi/New Delhi/IBNS: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday moved the Supreme Court challenging the rejection of his bail plea by the high court last week, media reports said.
The Jharkhand High Court on May 3 dismissed Soren's writ petition challenging his arrest in the land scam case and denied him a bail.
Soren was arrested in connection with an alleged mafia racket involving the illegal transfer of land ownership in Jharkhand.
He resigned from his position as Jharkhand Chief Minister just before his arrest.
Denying the allegations against him, he accused the BJP of exploiting investigative agencies to undermine democratically elected governments.
During a raid at Soren's Delhi home on January 29, ED officials uncovered the BMW car, a blue SUV bearing a Haryana license plate.
Meanwhile, a PMLA court will on May 10 deliver its verdict on Soren's bail plea.
