Yuvraj Singh Manchanda, who was scheduled to get married in a month, had visited Delhi's Lajpat Nagar market on September 6 with his sisters to shop for a sherwani.
Yuvraj leaves restaurant to meet former colleague
After shopping, Yuvraj and his sisters went to the Golden Dragon Restaurant in Lajpat Nagar at around 4:15 pm.
After spending some time at the restaurant, Yuvraj told his sisters that he had to meet a former colleague in Gurugram and left the restaurant.
While Yuvraj travelled to Gurugram, his sisters returned home in a cab.
The family said they contacted Yuvraj around 7 pm, when he told them that he would return home by 10 pm.
However, he did not return and subsequently became unreachable.
Family files missing complaint
The family tried repeatedly to contact Yuvraj after he went missing.
Two days later, they received a WhatsApp message from his phone, but the device was switched off again soon afterwards.
On September 11, the family filed a missing-person complaint.
Yuvraj's family has alleged that Gurugram Police had recovered his body on September 10 but did not inform them.
They further alleged that the information was not uploaded to the government portal used to publish details of unidentified bodies.
According to the family, police cremated the body on September 14, two days before they were informed about his death.
The family has demanded that Yuvraj's post-mortem report, inquiry documents, photographs and personal belongings be preserved and handed over to them.
Former colleague emerges as prime suspect
Police investigations found that Yuvraj's last phone call was with a woman identified as Vats, a former colleague who subsequently emerged as the prime suspect.
Her phone was initially switched off, and police later found that she was using another number.
Police arrested Vats from Uttarakhand.
Her partner, who has also been named as a second accused, was arrested as well.
Accused allegedly confess to murder
According to police, the two accused confessed to murdering Yuvraj and dumping his body in a drain.
The accused allegedly told investigators that a financial dispute was the motive behind the murder.
However, Yuvraj's family suspects that the accused may be withholding the actual reason behind the killing.
Both accused have been sent to five-day police custody.
Yuvraj was sole breadwinner
Yuvraj was the sole breadwinner of his family, according to his relatives.
His parents are reportedly unwell.
