New Delhi reaffirmed its commitment to peace, stability, and global disarmament.

The Indian Parliamentary Delegation, led by Lok Sabha MP Dr. D. Purandeswari, attended the session and paid floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the UN Headquarters.

India backs Myanmar-led peace process

During a briefing by special mandate holders on Myanmar, MP Dilip Saikia reiterated India’s support for initiatives that promote peace through a “Myanmar-owned and Myanmar-led” process.

He emphasized that lasting stability can only be ensured through inclusive political dialogue and the prompt resumption of democratic processes via credible elections.

Saikia also highlighted India’s ongoing humanitarian efforts in Myanmar, citing operations like Brahma and Sadbhav, which provide timely aid during natural disasters.

Responding to parts of a recent report that linked the April 2025 Pahalgam terrorist incident to displaced persons from Myanmar, Saikia called the observations unfounded and one-sided, urging the Special Rapporteur to avoid relying on unverified media reports that could tarnish India’s image.

Firm stand on disarmament

In a separate session on “Disarmament Machinery”, MP Sajda Ahmed reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to multilateralism and the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

She underlined that the Conference on Disarmament remains the exclusive multilateral platform for negotiating global arms control and disarmament issues.

Despite a challenging global security environment, Ahmed expressed confidence that the forum’s work would yield collective and practical solutions, emphasizing India’s readiness to collaborate with other member states to achieve shared objectives.
