The pilot managed to eject safely, and no injuries or damage to civilian property were reported.

According to an official statement, the Pilatus PC-7 Mk II aircraft went down around 2:25 pm.

The IAF said immediate rescue protocols were activated, and the pilot was safely recovered soon after the ejection.

The IAF has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.

Preliminary details indicate no operational or ground-level casualties, and authorities have secured the crash site.

In a statement on X, the IAF said: “An Indian Air Force PC-7 Mk II trainer aircraft met with an accident during a routine training mission near Tambaram, Chennai, today. The pilot ejected safely, and no damage to civil property has been reported. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to ascertain the cause of the accident.”

The Pilatus PC-7 Mk II is widely used by the IAF for Stage-I pilot training.

Friday’s incident adds to the list of recent trainer aircraft accidents under investigation as the Air Force reviews operational and technical safety protocols.
