The team of Indian doctors and nurses, who are currently visiting Bangladesh, have started treating patients who suffered burn injuries during a recent fighter jet mishap in the country.

The team arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday.

"The Indian medical team members have met with the doctors in Dhaka. They have seen the patients. They are continuing their activities", an official of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, told ANI.

"The specialised team consists of Doctors and nurses from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, which are the two top hospitals in India specialising in burn and plastic surgery", he added.

Bangladeshi nationals have appreciated India's gestures of sending medical experts to the country.

Sharing India's decision to send burn experts to Bangladesh, the Ministry of External Affairs earlier said in a statement: "A team of burn-specialist Doctors and Nurses with necessary medical support are scheduled to visit Dhaka shortly to treat the victims. "

"They will make an assessment of the condition of patients with recommendation for further treatment and specialised care in India as necessary," it said.

MEA said additional medical teams may also follow, depending on their preliminary assessment and treatment.

Meanwhile, Dhaka is seeking  medical experts and equipment to treat patients who are suffering burn injuries.

"We are preferring experts, nurses, and related equipment for burn treatment, not money, as one of the countries offered," a foreign ministry official told The Daily Star.

"A medical team from Singapore is on the way to Dhaka, while the governments of China, Japan, and India have offered to assist in the treatment of burn patients," he said.

Bangladesh aviation tragedy

At least 32 people died, and 165 others were injured after a Bangladesh Air Force training jet crashed at a school in Dhaka's Uttara area on Monday.

The deceased included a large number of children.
