IPL cricketer Abhishek Sharma to be quizzed in model's suicide
Surat (Gujarat): The investigation into the death of 28-year-old model Tanya Singh has taken an unexpected turn after police found a connection between the incident and a possible connection to Indian Premier League (IPL) cricketer Abhishek Sharma, media reported.
Tanya Singh was found hanging in her Surat residence two days ago.
The investigators are trying to join the missing links in the mysterious case, the report said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police VR Malhotra stated on Wednesday that preliminary findings indicate a friendship between Tanya Singh and the Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder, Abhishek Sharma. The police uncovered a message sent by the deceased model to Sharma on WhatsApp, which went unanswered.
"We have so far learnt that Abhishek Sharma was in friendship with the deceased model. More details will be known in the investigation," ACP Malhotra said during a press briefing, reported NDTV.
The police have still not contacted Abhishek Sharma but intend to issue him a notice for further clarification. The circumstances surrounding the unanswered messages and the nature of their relationship remain central to the ongoing investigation, the report said.
The Indian Express reported that Abhishek Sharma had blocked Tanya Singh's phone number and was not responding to her messages on social media.
Abhishek Sharma, who is an all-rounder, plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Tanya Singh's father, Bhanwar Singh, found her body on Monday morning when he went to wake her up. The 28-year-old model and fashion designer, who lived with her parents, had a significant following on various social media platforms.
Police are using technology to probe the mysterious death, checking the Call Detail Record (CDR) and IP Detail Record (IPDR) data retrieved from Tanya Singh's phone. ACP Malhotra highlighted that additional statements might be taken following the verification of these findings.
