J&K: Ex-Servicemen and Villagers Celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas with Indian Army
Ex-servicemen and villagers from Battal in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur, along with the adjoining areas of the Sunderbani sector, came together with the Indian Army to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, ANI reports.
The event took place at a local government school and was attended by a large gathering of enthusiastic participants, including children.
The commemoration of Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed on July 26 each year, holds deep significance as it pays tribute to the heroic efforts of the soldiers who led Operation Vijay and secured victory against Pakistani aggression during the Kargil War.
During the event, a special screening of video clips from the Kargil War was organized, taking the attendees down the memory lane, reminiscing about the tense environment during those days of conflict, reported ANI.
Many villagers recollected with pride the sacrifices they had made, recalling how they had to evacuate their homes and send their families to safer places in Jammu and Akhnoor.
Despite the challenging circumstances, some of them chose to stay back and render support to the Indian Army units deployed in the sector, acting as porters for ferrying essential ammunition and ration supplies.
The celebrations reached a crescendo as the participants came together to light sky lanterns and release tri-colour balloons, symbolizing the triumph of India's armed forces against the aggression from across the border.
