Karnataka: Arrest warrant issued against JD(S) leader Prajwal Revanna in sex tape case
Bengaluru: Police have issued an arrest warrant for suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna, who became embroiled in controversy after multiple obscene videos allegedly involving him went viral last month, media reported.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed an application and obtained court permission to issue the arrest warrant for Prajwal Revanna, reported India Express.
Several videos, allegedly showing 33-year-old Prajwal Revanna sexually abusing women, surfaced ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka on April 26. Revanna was the JD(S)-BJP joint candidate from Haasan.
According to media reports, Prajwal Revanna left soon after the sex tape scandal emerged and is now believed to be in Germany.
He faces charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmail, and threatening. Interpol has issued a blue corner notice to apprehend him.
Meanwhile, a Bengaluru court extended the interim anticipatory bail granted to Prajwal Revanna's father, HD Revanna, until May 20.
HD Revanna, a 66-year-old former minister, was arrested by the state police on May 4 in connection with an alleged kidnapping case of a woman allegedly raped by Prajwal Revanna.
The Congress government has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe these cases.
However, the BJP and JD(S)—NDA partners—have called for the cases to be handed over to the CBI and for action against those responsible for circulating the obscene videos.
