Karnataka govt to move Supreme Court challenging CWMA's order

Bengaluru/UNI: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said his government would move the apex court to challenge CWMA's order, asking the state to continue to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for another 15 days.

"We are contemplating whether we should release water or not. Today, we are moving the Supreme Court.

"We will make strong submissions before the apex court and pray for sending a team to both states to review the situation and then pass a judgement," he said.

Also, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lead a MPs delegation to New Delhi to meet Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to discuss the Cauvery dispute, Shivakumar said.

These statements came in the light of Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA)'s order, asking Karnataka to continue to release water to Tamil Nadu 5,000 cusecs daily for the next 15 days.

Shivakumar said his government has already written twice to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Cauvery row, but "they were still awaiting a response."

The next meeting of the Authority is slated for September 26.
