Kashmir: Four militants killed as infiltration bid foiled in Kupwara
Srinagar/UNI: Security forces foiled an infiltration bid and shot dead four unidentified militants close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, police said on Friday.
The infiltration bid was foiled on a day when Union Home Minister Amit Shah was on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
Police said the fresh infiltration bid was foiled in Kala jungle of Machil sector.
"In a joint operation, Army and Police have killed four terrorists in Kala Jungle of Machhal sector in Kupwara who were trying to infiltrate to our side from POJK," a police tweet said.
The identity and the group affiliation of the slain could not be established immediately.
There has been a sudden spurt in the infiltration attempts from across in the last two weeks. At least 11 militants have been killed while trying to infiltrate Kashmir.
On June 13, police claimed to have killed two suspected militants in the Machil sector near LoC.
Three days later, security forces shot dead five suspected foreign infiltrators of "JK Ghaznavi Force" in an encounter at Jumagund in the Keran sector of Kupwara.
After the "biggest" infiltration bid was foiled this year on June 16, senior Army officers said in the recent past they were getting a large number of intelligence inputs of likely infiltration from across the Line of Control.
