Kashmir valley gripped in intense cold ahead of wet weather
Srinagar/UNI: Kashmir valley gripped in intense cold as two tourist spots witnessed seasons lowest minimum temperature with Pahalgam at -7.4 and Gulmarg - six degree Celsius on Wednesday.
Srinagar dipped to minus 5.6 degree Celsius while the night temperature had a low of minus seven degree Celsius at Konibal.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar forecasted hazy weather conditions with light to moderate snow at scattered places with 70 percent chances during Dec. 29 evening to Dec. 30.
There is “no” forecast of any major snowfall till Jan. 5.
The MeT centre has also issued an advisory for Dec. 30 stating that there's no forecast of any major snowfall but even light Snowfall & below freezing temperature may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation on Sonmarg-Zojila, Sinthan Top, and Gurez- Bandipora.
Tourist hot spot Pahalgam in south Kashmir experienced the season's coldest night at minus 7.4 degree Celsius against minus 6.7 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
It was minus 2.2 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season.
Ski resort of Gulmarg had a low of minus 6.0 degree Celsius against minus 5.9 degree Celsius recorded the previous night which was 0.2 degree Celsius below normal during this time of the season for the valley of meadow in north Kashmir.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 5.6 degree Celsius against 4.8 degree Celsius a day ago.
It was minus 3.5 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season. On December 23 Srinagar had a low of minus 5.5 degree Celsius.
Qazigund on Srinagar Jammu national highway recorded a low of minus 5.0 degree Celsius, while Kukernag had a low of minus 3.4 degree Celsius on wednesday.
Frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara had a low of minus 5.5 degree Celsius against, MeT office said.
