Meet Usha Vance, the first Indian-origin second lady of America
Phoenix/IBNS: After a historic election that saw 78-year-old Republican leader Donald Trump returning to the White House after four years, Ohio Senator JD Vance will now occupy the office of the US Vice President.

Vance, 40, will become the first millennial to serve as vice president and the third-youngest vice president in American history. And Indians have a reason to celebrate with his wife Usha becoming the first Indian-origin second lady of the USA.
On the historic mandate, where Trump raced ahead of his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, comfortably winning 291 electoral votes in a fiercely fought election, Vance posted: "THANK YOU! To my beautiful wife for making it possible to do this. To President Donald J. Trump, for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level. And to the American people, for their trust. I will never stop fighting for ALL of you."
THANK YOU!

To my beautiful wife for making it possible to do this.
To President Donald J. Trump, for giving me such an opportunity to serve our country at this level.
And to the American people, for their trust. I will never stop fighting for ALL of you.
Addressing a huge crowd of supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida, Donald Trump congratulated Vance and his Indian-origin wife Usha Vance, who is all set to become the second lady.
"I want to be the first one to congratulate -- now I can say Vice President-elect JD Vance. And his remarkable and beautiful wife, Usha Vance," he said.
Both Usha and Trump's wife, Melania joined the leaders on the dais as Trump heaped praises on JD Vance, calling him a "feisty guy."
Interestingly, JD Vance is also a former Trump critic, and his political evolution in becoming the Republican Vice-President candidate showcases how Trump has taken over the grand old party and reshaped it in his own image.
Raised by his grandparents in southeastern Ohio as his mother battled drug addiction, Vance joined the Marine Corps after high school and later went on to attend Ohio State University and Yale Law School.
Who is Usha Vance?
It is at the Yale Law School, where JD Vance met his wife, Usha.
Usha, on the other hand, is an American lawyer with roots in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. She was born in a suburb of San Diego to Telugu-speaking Indian immigrants.
Her father is a mechanical engineer from IIT Madras and a lecturer at San Diego State University, and her mother is a molecular biologist and provost at the University of California, San Diego.
She graduated from Yale University with a bachelor's degree in history and from Yale Law School with a Juris Doctor degree. After law school, Vance served as a law clerk for multiple federal judges, including Chief Justice John Roberts, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, and Judge Amul Thapar.
In 2019, Vance was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and subsequently worked for a leading law firm handling civil litigation and appeals in cases involving higher education, local government, entertainment, and technology. She resigned from her law firm job in July 2024.
She delivered the introductory address for her husband, JD Vance, at the 2024 Republican National Convention, and often travels with him for his campaign events.
