Modi-Nitish deliver NDA's monster victory in Bihar, Mahagathbandhan suffers a humiliating rout

The eastern state of India went to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11.

NDA, which was always ahead of its opposing alliance Mahagathbandhan since the morning, raced away with the lead as the day progressed leaving behind the RJD-Congress-Left combo in tatters.

By evening when NDA's return was almost confirmed, PM Modi's BJP emerged as the single largest party with over 90 seats driving the tally of Mahagathbandhan to over 200 in the 243-member assembly.

Nitish's JD(U), the second most important ally of the Modi government at the Centre, was blamed for under-performance in the 2020 assembly elections but this time it has heavily contributed to the NDA's win with 80 odd seats.

Though the number of seats his party won or leading is lesser than the BJP, Nitish could prove all analysts, who wrote his political obituary prior to the polls, wrong.

On a day the Modi-Nitish duo stole the limelight, Chirag Paswan quietly made a statement as his LJP (Ram Vilas) stretched his tally to around 20 in a massive rise from one seat won by the smaller party five years ago.

The grand talks, three years of state-wide padyatra and tall claims fell flat as former political strategist Prashant Kishor, who helped several Indian politicians including Modi in the past as a professional, suffered a total washout in his debut election.

Mahagathbandhan that had offered a fierce competition to the NDA in 2020 looked miserable with around 30 seats while the alliance's CM face from RJD himself is unsure of his win.

The RJD is leading in 20 odd seats while his allies including Congress remained in single digit throughout the day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the party workers at BJP headquarters in New Delhi at 6 pm on Friday.

In response to his party's landslide victory, Union Home Minister and BJP strongman Amit Shah posted on X, "This is the victory of every Bihari who believes in ‘Developed Bihar’. No matter in what guise those who practice jungle raj and appeasement politics come, they will not get the opportunity to loot.

"The public now gives its mandate solely and exclusively on the basis of ‘Politics of performance’. I congratulate Shri @narendramodi ji, Shri @NitishKumar ji, and all the leaders and workers of the NDA. At the same time, I salute all the workers of @BJP4Bihar from the booth level to the state level who have brought this result to fruition through their tireless hard work."

"I assure the people of Bihar and especially our mothers and sisters that with the hope and trust with which you have given this mandate to the NDA, under the leadership of Modi ji, the NDA government will fulfill it with even greater dedication."
