Acting on specific intelligence inputs, Lokayukta officials conducted searches at six locations associated with HM Janardhan, a superintending engineer with the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS).

During the operation, officers recovered Rs 1.7 crore in cash from a flat belonging to Sujay Shetty, described as a close associate of the accused official.

Videos from the raids showed bundles of currency notes spread across a bed while officials used counting machines to tally the seized cash.

Authorities said documents recovered during the searches indicated that the officer owned assets worth approximately Rs 3.2 crore. These include three residential properties valued at around Rs 2.4 crore and agricultural land estimated to be worth over Rs 60 lakh.

According to Lokayukta officials, the investigation has so far revealed total assets amounting to Rs 4.42 crore, which they said is 216 per cent higher than the known sources of income of the superintending engineer.

Search and seizure operations are still underway, and officials indicated that further details are likely to emerge as the investigation progresses.
