The ceremony commenced with a traditional bhumi pujan (ground-breaking ritual), accompanied by the symbolic welding of the pipeline. The North East Gas Grid Project, implemented by IGGL, a joint venture company of five Petroleum PSUs including IOCL, ONGC, GAIL, OIL, and NRL, aims to connect the state capitals, major cities, and demand centers of the eight North Eastern States, reported EastMojo.

With an estimated cost of Rs 9265 crore, the project will ensure a consistent supply of natural gas to the northeastern states by linking them to the National Gas Grid.

The pipeline in Sikkim, specifically the Siliguri-Gangtok section, will span a length of 197 km, with 47 km falling within the state. It will follow the route of NH 717A, ensuring efficient connectivity and accessibility.
