Nussrat Jahan slams BJP leaders over Pathaan row, says 'they have problem with women wearing hijab and also bikini'
Kolkata/New Delhi/IBNS: Actor-MP Nussrat Jahan has slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for objecting to the bikini worn by Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone in a sequence of a song from upcoming Hindi film Pathaan, which also stars Shah Rukh Khan in the lead.
Speaking to NDTV, Nussrat, a Trinamool Congress MP from West Bengal, said, "They have a problem with everything. They have a problem with women wearing hijab. They have a problem with women wearing bikini. It is them who are telling the new-age women of India what to wear."
"They are trying to command our lives by telling us what to wear, what to eat, how we should talk, how we should walk, what we should learn in school, what we should watch on TV..." she added.
"I fear in the long run, I do not know where it would take all of us," the popular Bengali actor added.
Madhya Pradesh minister and BJP leader Narottam Mishra has expressed his anger over the use of saffron-coloured bikini in the song 'Besharam Rang'.
He also said that the film contains some objectionable scenes, and threatened to ban Pathaan in Madhya Pradesh if those shots are not replaced.
He said that the costumes and scenes should be fixed or deleted if the film has to be considered for release in MP.
Mishra said the "green" and "saffron" colours of the attire of the cast need to be "rectified" along with the lyrics of the song as well as the title of the film, which will hit the screens next month.
