Opposition repeatedly disrupting proceedings of Rajya Sabha: Piyush Goyal
New Delhi/UNI: Union Minister and BJP's Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha on Monday charged the Opposition of repeatedly disrupting the proceedings and termed it as an "insult to the Upper House.
"If this is going to be the behaviour which is shown to the rest of the country and the world, it is truly an 'insult' to the House," Goyal said , amid sloganeering from the Opposition members over the Adani Group issue and suspension of Congress MP Rajni Patil.
He added, "They (Opposition) are repeatedly disrupting the House".
Earlier, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar appealed to the Opposition to allow the House to run.
"The people of the country want debate, discussion and deliberation in the House. I appeal to the members to permit me to take the list of businesses," Dhankar said.
The Opposition has been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe over the Adani issue, and revocation of suspension of Patil.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also raised the issue of suspension of its MP besides 'expunction' of some of his speech in the Upper House last week.
The chairman objected to Kharge's remarks to the 'Chair' and the 'government' and said, "You have indicated in many words that the Chair is acting under 'pressure'. These are 'expunged. Nothing will go on record."
Later, the Chairman adjourned the House till 11:50 am, amid uproar by the Opposition on the same.
