Parliament: Rajya Sabha adjourned amid uproar in upper house
New Delhi/UNI: Amid opposition uproar and chaos, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House on Monday till 2 PM in the afternoon.
While opposition parties pressed for discussion on the Manipur issue, members from the Treasury benches demanded a discussion on the gangrape in the Congress-ruled state of Rajasthan.
With both sides sticking to their demands, the House proceedings got disrupted.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha adopted a motion to revoke the suspension of Congress MP Rajani Ashokrao Patil and allow her to attend the ongoing session of Parliament.
The Congress MP had been suspended from the Rajya Sabha during the Budget Session for filming the proceedings of the House.
During the post-lunch hours of Rajya Sabha proceedings, Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to move the National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, for discussion and passage.
The controversial Bill seeks to replace the ordinance promulgated by the Centre in May after the Supreme Court granted control of Delhi's bureaucracy to the elected government.
The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2023, is also listed for discussion and passage in the Upper House.
Both bills have already been passed by the Lok Sabha.
