PM Modi dons vibrant red and yellow turban, continuing his desi look tradition on Republic Day 2025
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 76th Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi by sporting a striking red and yellow striped turban with a long tail, complemented by a brown bandh gala jacket, a multi-coloured pocket square, and white pajama-churidar pants.

Known for his symbolic sartorial choices, Modi’s turban highlighted his connection to India’s cultural heritage.
Accompanied by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Prime Minister arrived at Kartavya Path, where he welcomed President Droupadi Murmu and Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto, the chief guest for this year’s celebrations.
Before joining the parade, Modi paid homage to the nation’s fallen heroes at the National War Memorial by observing a two-minute silence and performing a wreath-laying ceremony.
This solemn tribute was followed by President Murmu unfurling the Indian flag at Kartavya Path, officially opening the Republic Day parade.
The 76th Republic Day celebrates the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Progress), reflecting India’s commitment to preserving its heritage while striving for development.
In his message to the nation, PM Modi remarked, “Today, we celebrate 75 glorious years of being a Republic. We bow to all the great women and men who made our Constitution and ensured our journey is rooted in democracy, dignity and unity.
May this occasion strengthen our efforts towards preserving the ideals of our Constitution and working towards a stronger and prosperous India.”
PM Modi’s choice of attire has become a hallmark of Republic Day celebrations.
Last year, he wore a vibrant multi-coloured turban with a traditional Rajasthani Bandhani print, paired with a white kurta and a brown Nehru jacket, sparking discussions about his commitment to showcasing India’s diverse cultural traditions.
