PM Modi inaugurates Swabhiman Apartments in Delhi for slum dwellers
New Delhi: Swabhiman Apartments, situated in Ashok Vihar, Delhi, represents a transformative step toward improving the housing conditions of residents from Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters.

These apartments, inaugurated on Friday, January 3, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are part of an in-situ slum rehabilitation project spearheaded by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
The initiative focuses on enhancing the living standards of slum dwellers by offering modern housing equipped with essential amenities and promoting a healthier lifestyle.
The project includes 1,675 newly constructed flats, meticulously designed for eligible beneficiaries from slum areas.
These projects focus is on affordability, as beneficiaries are required to contribute only Rs 1.42 lakh toward the cost of construction, along with Rs 30,000 for maintenance over five years.
This nominal fee amounts to less than 7 percent of the construction cost of Rs 25 lakh per flat, making the housing initiative accessible to economically weaker sections of society.
Each apartment is furnished with critical amenities such as sanitation facilities, water supply, and community spaces to ensure a comfortable and dignified living environment for its residents.
In addition to inaugurating the Swabhiman Apartments, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for several other significant development projects in Delhi.
Among these is the World Trade Centre (WTC) at Nauroji Nagar, which will serve as a modern commercial hub, replacing over 600 dilapidated quarters.
Another key project is the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar, comprising 28 towers with more than 2,500 units.
Also included is the CBSE integrated office complex in Dwarka, envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility for educational administration.
Further, three additional projects collectively valued at over Rs 600 crore were unveiled.
These include the construction of academic blocks at the Eastern Campus in Surajmal Vihar and the Western Campus in Dwarka, alongside the development of Veer Savarkar College in Najafgarh.
These initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to fostering holistic urban development and improving infrastructure across Delhi.
