The Leader of the Opposition, whose party won only six of the 61 seats it contested as part of the Mahagathbandhan, said the larger fight is for “protecting the Constitution and democracy.”

Taking to X on Friday, Gandhi expressed gratitude to Bihar voters who supported the alliance but noted that the outcome was unexpected.

“This fight is for the protection of the Constitution and democracy. The Congress party and the INDIA alliance will deeply review this result and make their efforts to save democracy even more effective,” he said.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge echoed Gandhi’s concerns, alleging the misuse of “constitutional institutions” to influence the polls.

Kharge urged party workers not to be discouraged and vowed that the party would conduct a thorough study of the results.

“We will leave no stone unturned in raising awareness among the people. This fight is long – and we will fight it with complete dedication, courage, and truth,” he added.

The Bihar elections saw the NDA sweeping the polls with over 200 of the 243 seats, leaving the Mahagathbandhan decimated.

The RJD managed only 25 of its allotted 143 seats, down from 75 in the previous election, highlighting a dramatic shift in voter sentiment.
