Ranveer Allahbadia row: Maharashtra Police files FIR against Youtuber; charges guests, hosts from other episodes
Mumbai/IBNS: A day after Assam Police filed a case against YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, now Maharashtra's cyber cell unit filed an FIR against not just the 31-year-old YouTuber but all the people involved from Episode 1 to 6 of 'India's Got Latent' - including guests.
According to reports, 40 people have been named in the FIR.
The process of sending notices to each has started and everyone will be called to record their statements.
Three different groups and people had filed police complaints against Allahbadia in Maharashtra over his 'sex' remark.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier slammed the YouTuber stating that everyone has freedom of speech but there is a limit too.
"I have been informed about this, though I have not watched it yet. I came to know that it was very vulgar and this was wrong. Everyone has freedom of speech but this freedom ends when we encroach upon others' freedom. Everyone has limits, if anyone crosses them, action will be taken," the Chief Minister had said.
Ranveer Allahbadia on Monday apologised for his remark and said: "My comment wasn't just inappropriate but was also not funny. Comedy is not my forte. I'm just here to say sorry... I am not going to give any context or justification or reasoning behind whatever happened. I am just offering an apology."
"I personally had a lapse in judgement, it wasn't cool on my part. The podcast is watched by people of all ages [so] I don't want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly," the young podcaster, who has interviewed the likes of union minister Nitin Gadkari, actress Priyanka Chopra, spiritual leader Sadhguru, cricket great Sourav Ganguly, said in a video message.
What is the controversy about?
During the latest episode of Samay Raina's show India's Got Talent, Ranveer asked a contestant about the size of his p***s and then asked him to suck his d**k.
Ranveer was heard saying in a viral video, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?"
Social media influencer Apoorva Makhija, comedian Samay Raina and content creator Ashish Chanchlani, who were the co-panelists, were flabbergasted while they were laughing.
The remark has not only irked the social media users with several of them being his followers, an official complaint has been filed with the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Maharashtra Women's Commission against the podcaster.
