Saif Ali Khan's attacker wanted to treat ailing mother in Bangladesh with the stolen money: Reports
Mumbai/IBNS: Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan on Tuesday waved at his fans with a big smile as he returned home days after he was hospitalised following an attack on him by an intruder at his place during an alleged burglary attempt, media reports said.
Now as per reports, arrested attacker Mohammad Shariful Islam, who has been identified as a Bangladeshi, revealed that he wanted to steal money from someone rich and travel to his own country to treat his ailing mother.
The attacker had booked a train ticket from Mumbai to Howrah Station in Kolkata from where he had planned to travel to Bangladesh.
The accused has a history of committing petty crimes.
He had earlier worked at a restaurant in the upmarket Worli area of Western Mumbai and later joined a Thane restaurant, The Times of India reported.
The attacker was reportedly not aware of Saif's identity while taking an attempt of burglary.
Saif, a Bollywood A-lister, was stabbed multiple times after he tried to protect his son Jeh from the attacker.
He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son from his previous marriage, Ibrahim Ali Khan, in an auto-rickshaw as no car was available at that point of time.
The actor, who survived multiple stabs, received a wound close to the spinal cord. Doctors had to remove the knife which was 2.5 inches deep into the wound.
The attack on the house of a top level celebrity has left the Mumbai Police red faced.
Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said the accused won't be spared.
"It is our responsibility to keep Maharashtra safe. As per the decision taken by CM, action is being taken. We will take strict action against illegal Bangladeshis," Shinde said as quoted by News 18.
More than 30 teams were mobilised to track down and apprehend the attacker.
Saif's wife, Bollywood superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan, who was present during the attack, recorded her statement with the Mumbai Police.
She recounted the horrifying incident, stating, "The attacker was aggressive. I saw him stab Saif repeatedly. Our priority was to get Saif to the hospital."
She added that the intruder fled without stealing any valuables.
Kareena revealed that after ensuring her husband was hospitalised, she sought refuge at her sister Karisma Kapoor's home, feeling "terrified" after the ordeal.
