Three sentenced to life for murdering man trapped through Tinder dating app
Jaipur: A Jaipur court on Saturday sentenced three people, one woman and two men, in the murder of Dushyant Sharma, whom the trio had trapped via the dating app Tinder and killed when his parents failed to pay Rs 10 lakh as ransom, media reports said.
Twenty-eight-year-old Dushyant Sharma had matched with Priya Seth, 27, on Tinder. They took their relationship forward by communicating on the app for three months. They then decided to take the next step and meet each other.
However, both Dushyant and Priya had lied to each other. Dushyant, who was already married, told Priya that he was Vivan Kohli, a rich businessman from Delhi.
Convinced by his fake credentials, Priya proposed to meet him in a rented accommodation, which Dushyant promptly accepted.
However, Priya had ulterior motives in inviting Dushyant. Right from the beginning, her plan was to kidnap and extort money.
As soon as he stepped into the house, Priya, along with her two accomplices, With the help of two accomplices-Dikshant Kamra and Lakshya Walia-attacked him and threatened to kill him if he did not give them money.
However, they soon realized that the ‘rich businessman’ was not as wealthy as he had claimed to be. When Priya and her two accomplices called Dushyant's family to pay ransom, they failed to pay Rs 10 lakh.
To save his son’s life, Dushyant’s father told them that he could arrange Rs 3 lakh.
"We got a call from my son's phone, and 'Papa, they will kill me, please give them Rs10 lakh and save me," Dushyant's father Rameshwar Prasad Sharma said during an interview with activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, reported NDTV.
"Priya then snatched the phone and started abusing me. She asked me to deposit Rs 10 lakh in Dushyant's account. I told her that I don't have that much money, but could arrange Rs 3 lakh by 4 pm," he added.
Afraid of being caught for the crime, the perpetrators withdrew only Rs 20,000 after the father deposited Rs 3 lakh.
Priya took away Dushyant's debit card and forced him to tell her the pin, they used the card to withdraw.
They killed him by stabbing him multiple times and smothering him with a pillow.
Following her conviction, Priya confessed to the crime.
According to the report, she said, "He did not even tell me his real name. he told me he is very rich. I was in a live-in relationship with Dikshant and he had a debt of Rs 21 lakhs. He was looking for someone to get that money from. So, we made this plan together to kidnap someone, ask for a ransom, and murder the person."
They admitted that Sudarshan was killed even before his father had transferred the money.
