UP: Women in panic after ‘nude gang’ attacks; police use drones, install CCTV for surveillance

Meerut: Women in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district’s Daurala are in panic after incidents of nude men dragging women to deserted areas have recently emerged. The police have stated an investigation but no one has been arrested so far.
According to an NDTV report, a woman was travelling to her workplace alone when two men approached her and tried to drag her to the fields.
She somehow managed to release herself from their clutches.
Hearing her screams, the villagers rushed to the spot and surrounded the area, but no one was found.
The woman, when asked about their appearance, said they had no clothes on their body.
Scared over the incident, the victim has now changed her job and avoids the route, the report said.
The villagers have said this wasn’t the first incident when the ‘nude gang’ attacked women of the area. Three other women were targeted in earlier incidents.
They added that the previous attacks were not reported as victims were afraid of ‘public shame’ but since the matter has now gone out of hand, police must intervene and ensure protection.
Rajendra Kumar, the village chief, said the gangs has so far targeted only women.
Police have combed nearby fields and, last Saturday, searched the entire area with drones for several hours in the presence of senior officers.
CCTV cameras have been installed in neighbouring areas also for surveillance, said the report.
Despite the fear and panic, some people believe the presence of a ‘nude gang’ is just a rumour and the handiwork of mischievous elements to destroy the image of the police and the administration, according to the report.
