Ganguly died at 89 last evening at his Kolkata residence.
He is survived by his daughter, son in law and granddaughter.
Ganguly worked in Hindustan Standard, The Statesman, Business Standard and The Telegraph, where he became the Bureau Chief and used to write a weekly column on Bengal Politics.
He authored several books, mostly on the politics of the Left and ultra-Left.
He was one of the leading journalists of his time in Kolkata and mentored many young scribes.
"We pay its rich tribute to the departed senior journalist and member of the Club, Tarun Ganguly and conveys its deep condolences to the bereaved family," the Press Club, Kolkata said in statement.
