Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday ripped into the Congress and said while no country opposed Operation Sindoor, which was a response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the government lacked support from the grand old party.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha during the debate on Operation Sindoor, Modi said: "We had the support of the world but, sadly, not from the Congress."

The PM's criticism followed comments by the Congress leader P Chidambaram, who earlier this week questioned the government's statement that the Pahalgam terrorists were from Pakistan and that the attack, which killed 26 civilians, was orchestrated by the Pak deep state.

Modi said no global leader urged India to halt Operation Sindoor, which was launched to avenge the Pahalgam attack.

"On the night of the 9th, the Vice President of the United States attempted to contact me. He tried for an hour, but I was in a meeting with the military and was unable to answer. Later, I returned his call," he said.

"During our conversation, the Vice President informed me that Pakistan was planning to launch a major offensive. In response, I firmly stated, 'If this is Pakistan's intent, they will face dire consequences.'"

PM Modi said after the Pahalgam terror attack, he made a public commitment to ensure that the terrorists would be eradicated.

"I also declared that their handlers would be held accountable and face consequences," he said.

"Immediately following the Pahalgam attack, the Pakistani military anticipated that India would retaliate significantly. They even issued threats to use nuclear weapons.On May 6th and 7th, India executed its planned response, leaving Pakistan powerless to act," he said.

"In just 22 minutes, our forces avenged the attack of April 22nd with clear objectives in mind," the PM said.

"During Operation Sindoor, our objective was crystal clear: to strike at the epicenter of terrorism and dismantle the training grounds linked to the Pahalgam attackers. We targeted them at their very core," he said.

Modi said Operation Sindoor demonstrated that those responsible for orchestrating terrorist attacks in India will face severe consequences and that they cannot act with impunity.

"Through this operation, India has firmly conveyed three key messages: First, any assault on Indian soil by militants will be met with a decisive and fitting response on India's own terms.

Second, nuclear threats will not deter India from taking necessary action.

Third, there will be no distinction between a government that harbours terrorists and the masterminds behind such acts of terror."

Attacking Congress further, the PM said: "India is steadily advancing towards self-reliance, while the Congress party, unfortunately, continues to rely on Pakistan for political narratives. Unfortunately, it seems even their issues now need to be 'imported' from across the border!"

"After April 22... within three-four days... they were saying 'kahan gayi 56-inch ka seena' (a reference to the opposition's '56-inch chest' jibe at the PM) and 'Modi has failed'... their statements were demoralising the forces. They don't trust the forces and that is why they were questioning Op Sindoor."

Modi was relentless in his attack on the Congress, also claiming the opposition party had 'changed its tune after realising the people of India were in complete support of the armed forces'.

"I would like to remind those lecturing us on diplomacy of their own track record. Following the 26/11 attacks, the Congress-led government, bowing to foreign pressure, initiated dialogue with Pakistan within a few weeks of the incident," he said, slamming the Congress.

"Despite Pakistan's continued sponsorship of attacks on Indian soil, the UPA government refrained from expelling any Pakistani diplomats from India. It never revoked Pakistan's Most Favoured Nation status," Modi said.

Lauding India's Air Defemce System, Modi said: "Our air defence system has been garnering significant attention worldwide. It demonstrated remarkable efficiency by neutralizing Pakistan's missiles and drones with ease, as if they were a mere house of cards."

Rahul Gandhi dares Modi

PM Modi's address followed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi challenging him to call Donald Trump a 'liar', refuting his claims that he mediated to end the conflict between India and Pakistan in May.

Addressing the Lok Sabha, Gandhi said: "Donald Trump said 29 times that he stopped the war. If this is not true, then the PM should deny and say Trump you are liar."

Speaking about the Pahalgam attack that shocked the nation on April 22, one of the deadliest terror attacks recorded in Jammu and Kashmir in recent times, Gandhi said: "Attack in Pahalgam: a brutal, heartless attack, clearly organized and orchestrated by the Pakistani state."

"Merciless killings of young and old people in cold blood. We have together condemned Pakistan," he said.

Apart from Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress MP and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing attack on the Centre while launching a debate on the Operation Sindoor in the Parliament.
