A video circulating online shows a man confronting Dipke as he walks out of the airport.

"Why are you ruining the country?" the man is heard shouting at the CJP leader in the video. Dipke, however, appears unfazed, smiling and flashing a thumbs-up sign as he continues walking.

Dipke slams five-day judicial custody of CJP members

Dipke returned to Delhi on Wednesday afternoon after travelling to his hometown in Maharashtra to attend his grandmother's funeral on October 10.

The CJP founder had himself been detained by Delhi Police after being picked up from inside a flight when he arrived in the national capital on October 10 to lead a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Upon his return, Dipke criticised the Centre over the five-day judicial custody of fellow CJP members Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.

"Is unfurling the Tricolour a crime? Ashutosh and Saurav have been sent to jail for five days. Why? Because they went to Jantar Mantar and unfurled the Tricolour," Dipke said.

Comparing the arrests to incidents during British rule, he added that freedom fighters who unfurled the national flag in public places were arrested and jailed during the colonial era.

Why were CJP members arrested?

CJP members Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das were arrested on Tuesday morning after staging a flash protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

Videos shared by Dipke show party volunteers climbing a gate to enter the protest site, waving the national flag and raising slogans before being detained by police.

The protest took place a day after the Centre denotified Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site, amid continuing demonstrations.

Police booked the CJP leaders for trespassing at Jantar Mantar and allegedly violating bail conditions imposed a day earlier.

Dipke, Ranka and Das had been released on bail on Monday on the condition that they would not disrupt public peace for one year.

Opposition leaders condemn arrests

The arrests have drawn criticism from several Opposition leaders, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The controversy comes amid wider Opposition protests over allegations of electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

On Monday, Opposition leaders undertook a heavily barricaded "March for Democracy" towards the Supreme Court and filed a joint petition challenging the SIR exercise and alleged poll irregularities.

The developments have intensified the political confrontation over electoral transparency, protest rights and the authorities' handling of demonstrations in the national capital.
