Contraband cigarettes worth Rs 82 lakh seized in joint operation by Assam Rifles, Cachar Police
Cachar: The Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Cachar Police, seized a large consignment of contraband cigarettes worth approximately Rs 82 lakh in Assam’s Cachar district on Sunday.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the trafficking of contraband items in the district, the joint team launched an operation in the Bhaskhandi area late in the evening. During the operation, the personnel intercepted and recovered a consignment of illegal Esse Light cigarettes valued at around Rs 82 lakh.
The seized cigarettes have been handed over to Cachar Police for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Assam Rifles has been at the forefront of anti-contraband operations in the region, conducting sustained drives to curb illegal trade and dismantle trafficking networks. Officials described the latest seizure as a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to combat contraband activities in the area.
