Manipur CM starts crop compensation distribution
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday distributed benefits under Compensatory Package for Farmers affected by unprecedented conflict under the scheme of Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
During the benefit distribution function held at Durbar Hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Imphal, Biren Singh informed that in the first phase of the compensatory package 3483 farmers are getting crop compensation with a total amount of Rs. 18.37 crore.
He also said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had approved Rs. 38.6 crore as proposed by the State Government for a compensatory package to be provided to affected farmers, he added.
The Manipur CM further informed that as per a survey conducted by the Agriculture Department, agricultural activities could not be taken up in about 5127 hectares of land due to the unprecedented violence in the State. Out of 5901 affected farmers duly verified by the concerned Deputy Commissioners (DCs), 19 are cancelled due to duplication and another 2399 were found to have failed Aadhaar authentication and are sent back for re-verification to concerned DCs. He also said that the next phase will be taken up after the re-verification is completed.
From the total number of farmers who are getting compensatory package include 199 farmers from Imphal West, 360 from Imphal East, 1031 from Bishnupur, 25 from Thoubal, 51 from Jiribam, 142 from Chandel, 272 from Kangpokpi, 1137 from Churachandpur, 35 from Tengnoupal and 231 from Kakching.
